The most popular Chromebook we have purchased in FCPS has been the Lenovo N21 model. A few months ago, the N21 was discontinued and replaced with the N22. They look almost identical as you can see in this picture. The N21 has “lenovo” written under the center of the screen and the N22 has “N22” written under the bottom right corner of the screen.
The internal components are similar too. However, there is one difference that could potentially be an issue for you. If you’ve read the title of this post you probably already know what it is. The power cords / charging ports are different.
The plug that goes into the N22 is larger than the one for the N21. The reason this may be an issue is many schools will have a mix of N21’s and N22’s. So you’ll want to keep this in mind when setting up carts, class sets, 1:1 deployments, etc… I’d recommend labeling your power bricks with either a marker or label that says N21 or N22. The cords look very similar unless you have two side by side to compare.
On a positive note, we have heard good feedback on both models in how well they perform and are holding up. Any Lenovo Chromebooks you receive going forward will be the N22 model.
