Sharing a Google Calendar for use in your Website or Blog

calendarYou hopefully already know that all FCPS employees and students have access to several Google tools using their FCPS email address and password. This includes Google Drive with unlimited storage, Google Classroom, Google Sites, and Google Calendar to name a few.

One use for a Google Calendar is to share events, homework assignments, due dates, etc… on your teacher website or blog. By default your calendars are only visible to you, but following the steps below you can make the events on your calendar public.

Creating A New Calendar and Sharing It

  1. Go to calendar.google.com and log in with your FCPS email credentials. Note: calendar.google.com works and is easy to remember, but requires you to log on twice. Calendar.google.com/a/fayette.kyschools.us is a direct link for FCPS users.
  2. In the top right hand corner click on the cog wheel cog
  3. In the menu that appears click Settings
  4. In the top left click calendarscalendar settings
  5. Click Create new calendar
  6. Give your calendar a name
  7. Click the box next to Share this calendar with others
  8. Click the box next to Make this calendar public
  9. Make sure the drop down next to Make this calendar public shows see all event details
  10. If you want other staff members to be able to edit the calendar:
    1. Enter their email address under Share with specific people
    2. Change the Permission Settings drop down to Make changes to events
    3. Click Add person
  11. Click Create Calendar
  12. On the Warning message click Yes

Sharing An Existing Calendar

  1. Go to calendar.google.com and log in with your FCPS email credentials. Note: calendar.google.com works and is easy to remember, but requires you to log on twice. Calendar.google.com/a/fayette.kyschools.us  is a direct link for FCPS users.
  2. In the top right hand corner click on the cog wheel cog
  3. In the menu that appears click Settings
  4. In the top left click calendarscalendar settings
  5. calClick Shared: Edit Settings next to the calendar you want to share
  6. Click the box next to Share this calendar with others
  7. Click the box next to Make this calendar public
  8. Make sure the drop down next to Make this calendar public shows see all event details
  9. If you want other staff members to be able to edit the calendar:
    1. Enter their email address under Share with specific people

    3. Click Add person

  10. Click Save
    1. On the Warning message click Yes

Embedding a Google Calendar in your website or blog

The exact steps for embedding the calendar will vary depending on what type of site you use, but below are the steps for getting the code you need to add to your site.

  1. Go to calendar.google.com and log in with your FCPS email credentials. Note: calendar.google.com works and is easy to remember, but requires you to log on twice. Calendar.google.com/a/fayette.kyschools.us is a direct link for FCPS users.
  2. In the top right hand corner click on the cog wheel cog
  3. In the menu that appears click Settings
  4. In the top left click calendarscalendar settings
  5. Click on the name of the calendar
  6. Code the code out of the Embed This Calendar section to your website
    embed
  7. Make sure you have followed the steps for making your calendar public.
